Job Description

The ICRAR/University of Western Australia node of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for All Sky Astrophysics in 3-Dimensions (CAASTRO-3D) invites applications for two Postdoctoral Research Positions in Observations and Astrophysical simulations of galaxies in the Universe and one Data Scientist/Engineer Position.

The newly funded CAASTRO-3D center spans six (6) Australian universities, three (3) national infrastructure facilities, and seven (7) international partner institutions. CAASTRO-3D combines Australia's leading optical, infrared and radio telescope technologies with sophisticated theoretical simulations and ambitious new data intensive science techniques to build a comprehensive picture of the evolution of matter, the chemical elements, and ionizing radiation in the Universe from the Epoch of Reionization to the present day.

The successful applicants will work with Prof. Lister Staveley-Smith ([email protected]), Prof. Chris Power ([email protected]) and Prof Andreas Wicenec ([email protected]) on research associated with neutral hydrogen in galaxies (the ASKAP Wallaby survey), galaxy formation modelling and simulations, and data intensive astronomy respectively. A fraction of the time will be available for independent research, and collaborations with other national and international CAASTRO-3D partner institutions are strongly encouraged, for example with Wallaby co-PI, Dr Baerbel Koribalski at CSIRO.
The positions are offered for three years, with anticipated starting dates from July 2017. A further one-year extension may be available for the Wallaby position.

Funds will be available for travel and other research expenses.

Applications should be submitted through the University of Western Australia job site (http://external.jobs.uwa.edu.au/cw/en/listing) and must include a CV, list of publications, a brief statement of research interests and plans, and the names of three referees.

Full details of the position's responsibilities and the selection criteria are outlined in the position descriptions.

Closing date: Friday 10 February 2017
