The Department of Physics at the University of Bath is seeking to appoint a Lecturer with an established research profile in theoretical or computational astrophysics in one or more fields of time domain, galaxy formation and evolution, high energy and black hole astrophysics. The appointee will become a member of the Bath Astrophysics Group (http://www.bath.ac.uk/physics/research/astrophysics/), which is a new and growing research group with an international reputation in Galactic and extragalactic astrophysics, including the study of black hole driven systems and their environments within the wider context of stellar and galactic evolution and cosmology. Group members have privileged access to the University’s high performance computer cluster (http://www.bath.ac.uk/bucs/services/hpc/), are active in numerous international, national and local science collaborations, e.g. including major astronomical facilities such as LSST, CTA, VLT-KMOS, NASA-WISE, ESA-GAIA and ESA-XIPE, and are developing capabilities for multi-messenger astronomy in the era of time-domain science and gravitational-wave astronomy.
The successful candidate will establish a well-funded independent research programme that complements and enhances existing activities in the group and around the university, for instance by forming links to the Theoretical and Computational Physics Group, the Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation and the Centre for Collective Behaviour and Networks. The appointee will also contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision and administrative duties within the Department.
