Job Description

We invite applications for two postdoctoral research positions funded by the ERC Consolidator Grant DEMOBLACK led by Michela Mapelli. The DEMOBLACK team investigates the formation channels of binary black holes, by means of population synthesis and dynamical simulations.

Candidates with experience in any of the following areas are especially encouraged to apply:
1- Bayesian analysis and model selection techniques applied to gravitational-wave data;
2- development of binary population synthesis codes;
3- development of direct N-body codes.

Successful candidates will join an active research team, working in the vibrant research environment of the University of Padova. Enquiries about the scientific project and the positions can be addressed to Michela Mapelli: [email protected]
More details about the research group can be found at http://demoblack.com/

The starting date is flexible. Applicants must have a Ph.D. (in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, or equivalent degree), or are expected to obtain their Ph.D. by the time of the appointment. Appointments are for 2 years, with a possible 1-year extension, depending on performance. Gross salaries range approximately from 28000 to 60000 EUR/year (depending on experience), more than adequate for local costs of living. Generous travel funds are available.

Applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interests (maximum 3 pages), complete list of publications, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to prof. Michela Mapelli, [email protected]. Applications sent by November 30 2020 will receive full consideration. Applications after this date are still welcome until the positions are filled.
Women, Minorities, and Disabled Persons are encouraged to apply.
