Job Announcement Text:

We invite applications for an astronomer-in-residence (AIR) to lead outreach in the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve (idahodarksky.org/) in 2024. The AIR program is part of a NASA Science Activation project, the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve STEM Network (CIDSRSN) led by Prof. Brian Jackson of Boise State University - boi.st/NASA_CIDSRSN.

The AIR is analogous to an artist-in-residence: the AIR spends 4 weeks (sometime between 2024 Jul 6 to Aug 31) in the Reserve, hosting public events. Actual activities are flexible, with a minimum of two events per week. UCLA has partnered to conduct light pollution studies, and AIR involvement with that work is encouraged.

Travel, lodging, $3k stipend are provided. The AIR will be a contractor and will have some logistical support from Boise State. Some time for personal or work-related projects can be accommodated within the AIR position. Applications from all career stages are welcome with preference for outreach experience.

Send this info directly to [email protected]:

  • Curriculum vitae with catalog of outreach experience
  • Statement (2 pages) of outreach interests and plans - An emphasis on inclusive outreach is a positive.
