Job Announcement Text:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Delaware seeks applications for the Annie Jump Cannon Post-doctoral research position. This full-time benefitted position was established to honor of the contributions to astronomy of Delaware native Annie Jump Cannon. In addition to a competitive salary, an additional research stipend of $5,000 will be available for travel, publications, and computer equipment. The position is targeted to start in Fall 2018.

The Annie Jump Cannon Post-doctoral Research appointment provides an opportunity for a highly qualified postdoctoral candidate to conduct independent research in any area of astrophysics. The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Delaware maintains active research programs in observational and theoretical stellar physics, asteroseismology, extrasolar planetary science, gamma ray astronomy and high energy astrophysics, and galactic and extragalactic astronomy (see http://web.physics.udel.edu/research/astronomy).  The Bartol Research Institute, a research center within the Department, is part of the VERITAS and CTA collaborations.  The Department hosts the Delaware Asteroseismic Research Center and the Whole Earth Telescope and is moving towards membership in the SARA consortium (see saraobservatory.org).  The department also maintains a collaboration with Mt. Cuba Observatory in Wilmington, DE.  A requirement for the successful candidate is to participate in the public outreach at MCAO by contributing 2 public lectures per year.  Candidates must have obtained a Ph.D.  or equivalent doctoral level degree in astronomy, physics or a related field prior to starting this position.
