Job Description

The Institute of Astrophysics (IA) at Universidad Católica de Chile (UC) invites applications for a postdoctoral position to work with Profesor Franz Bauer (UC) and Dr. Igor Chilingarian (CfA / Harvard and Smithsonian) on the multi-wavelength confirmation and characterization of a large sample of Intermediate-Mass and small Supermassive Black Holes (IMBHs, sSMBHs) and their hosts using optical/NIR (VLT, Magellan, MMT, Keck, HST) and X-ray (Chandra, XMM, Swift) data. Applicants with expertise in related areas, particularly with skills involving optical/NIR imaging and/or spectroscopic data analysis, are especially encouraged to apply.

The postdoctoral fellowship will be funded initially for two years with a one-year extension subject to a performance evaluation and funding availability. Successful fellows will have access to the Chilean 10% time allocation on all telescopes in Chile, related membership in selected large surveys (e.g., LSST, SDSS-V), and various CPU and GPU clusters.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, or related field prior to the start date. Applicants should submit *here* the following materials as PDfs: brief cover letter; CV with exact/expected PhD date and publication list; statement of past research and current interests/goals (max. 3 pages), optional 1-page technical skills statement; and names of three contacts to solicit reference letters from. Review of applications will begin Feb 4, 2024; late applications will be considered until the position is filled. Anticipated starting date between April-August 2024.

The Universidad Católica de Chile is committed to equal opportunity and diversity in its workforce. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. The University is actively engaged in promoting gender equality in all selection processes.
