2021-2024 MIT Pappalardo Fellowships in Physics Competition

<p>Call for Nominations: 2021-2024 MIT Pappalardo Fellowships in Physics</p>

<p>Faculty and senior researchers within the international community of physics, astronomy or related fields are invited to nominate outstanding young candidates at an early stage in their careers for the 2021-2024 MIT Pappalardo Fellowships in Physics competition.</p>

<p>Nominees must be young women and men of exceptional ability who have, or will have received, a doctoral degree in physics, astronomy or related fields by September 1, 2021.</p>

<p>Please note: Interested applicants cannot self-nominate. To participate in the Pappalardo Fellowships competition, candidates must be nominated by a faculty member or senior researcher currently active in physics, astronomy or related fields. The nominator is traditionally the faculty supervisor or senior researcher with the deepest knowledge of the quality of the candidate's research.</p>

<p>Nominations must be submitted by faculty/senior researchers using the the secure, on-line nomination form located on the MIT Department of Physics web site at http://web.mit.edu/physics/research/pappalardo/competition.html.</p>

<p>The NOMINATION DEADLINE is FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2020.</p>

<p>The Pappalardo Fellows will be selected for a three-year appointment each, running from September 1, 2021, through August 31, 2024. Features of the fellowship include:</p>

<p>---independent, unrestricted choice of research direction within the MIT Department of Physics;</p>

<p>---a competitive annual stipend, with an annual cost-of-living increase for the second and third years, plus $5,000 per year in untaxed discretionary research funds;</p>

<p>---MIT Medical Affiliate health insurance coverage for Fellows and their dependents;</p>

<p>---active faculty mentoring, along with weekly luncheons and monthly dinners with Department faculty and distinguished guests.</p>
