We are seeking candidates to fill a 3-year Ph.D position in the GECO (Galaxies, Etoiles, Cosmologie) team of the Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille (LAM) in the field of extragalactic physics. The position is funded through the AMIDEX foundation of Aix Marseille Université, on a project led by Véronique Buat. The candidates are expected to have a master’s degree in astronomy, astrophysics or related fields and to be enthousiastic to work in a collaborative manner. An expertise in python language will be highly appreciated.
The scientific goal of the project is to perform a complete census of the star formation back to the early universe by combining multi-wavelength data over the whole electromagnetic spectrum in large cosmological surveys. The team has a full access to all the best datasets built with the Herschel observatory, will have access to early JWST data, and is involved in the guaranteed programs of the new IRAM/NIKA2 camera and future VLT/MOONS instrument. The analysis tools are already developed and will be adapted to fit the objectives of the Ph. D. The successful candidate is expected to take an active part to the scientific activities within our laboratory and team: group meetings, journal clubs, seminars, meetings with research visitors. She/he will attend at least one international conference per year and several collaborative meetings.
