Job Description

The Astrophysics and Cosmology Research Unit (ACRU) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal invites applications for postdoctoral research positions in the areas of extragalactic astronomy and cosmology.  ACRU expects to offer a number of two-year fellowships with the possibility of extension to three years.  Starting dates are negotiable and may begin as early as January 2018.

ACRU faculty members have research interests in the areas of galaxy evolution, clusters of galaxies, the cosmic microwave background, redshifted 21-cm observations, and theoretical cosmology.  ACRU is involved in a wide range of projects including ACT, C-BASS, HERA, HIRAX, various MeerKAT surveys, MUSTANG2, Planck, Simons Observatory, SPIDER, SPT, and XCS.  Successful candidates will have the opportunity to join these projects and work in a broad range of areas including data analysis, computational astrophysics, instrumentation, and theory.  Candidates are also encouraged to develop their own independent research.

Applicants should e-mail a curriculum vitae, brief statement of research interests, list of publications, and arrange to have three letters of reference e-mailed to Dr. H. Cynthia Chiang ([email protected]) by November 15, 2017 for full consideration.  Note that applicants should have obtained their PhD degree within the last five years.
