Job Announcement Text:

The NAOJ ALMA Project invites applications for a Project Research Staff (postdoctoral researcher) for the ALMA Joint Scientific Research Program to conduct the research project “A Systematic Study of the Dust Build-up in the Epoch of Reionization” using ALMA data (including archival data). The successful candidate will be able to spend 100% of their time on this project without any other duties, in collaboration with Assistant Professor Hanae Inami at Hiroshima University (Higashi-Hiroshima, Hiroshima, Japan). NAOJ expects the successful candidate to publish one scientific paper per year and submit one ALMA proposal. The successful candidate will have the option of supervising students, if they wish, for the purpose of carrying out this project.

Applicants must have a Doctoral degree or equivalent in a relevant field. The successful candidate will be employed by NAOJ, and will be stationed at Hiroshima University. In case the PI of the project (Assistant Professor Inami) moves to another university or institute, the successful candidate is expected to accompany the PI. However, if such an arrangement is deemed difficult by the new university/institute, the successful candidate will be relocated to NAOJ in Mitaka, Tokyo to continue the proposed research project.

In principle, the term is for two years from the starting date, and the starting date is October 1, 2021 (negotiable). NAOJ will conduct a review based on the mid-term performance report submitted by the PI and may extend the term for an additional year. For a researcher who was employed by NINS after April 1, 2013, their term will be set so that the total employment period from April 1, 2013 will be less than 10 years. Any researcher who was employed as a NAOJ Project Research Fellow for a total of five or more years is not eligible to apply for this position.

Screening of applicants will begin from April 5, 2021 and will continue until the position has been filled. The final deadline for application submissions is May 14, 2021, 15:00 (JST).

NAOJ is committed to the realization of a society with gender equality.
