Job Description

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in CMB Polarized Foregrounds.

The post is available initially for a fixed-term until 31/03/2020, but with the possibility of extension.

This project is to use data from the C-Band All-Sky Survey (C-BASS) and other CMB experiments to improve the separation of CMB foregrounds, leading to improved measurements of cosmological parameters, and a better understanding of foreground emission mechanisms. We also plan to design and simulate future experiments for measuring CMB foregrounds, and to collaborate with groups designing new CMB experiments such as LiteBIRD

The successful candidate will work on analysis and exploitation of data from the C-BASS survey, using existing software and also writing new code, to produce better measurements of cosmological parameters from CMB data. They will also do simulations to help plan new CMB foregrounds experiments.

Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining, a doctorate in physics or a related field and ideally a strong background in CMB observational cosmology, with a strong background in scientific data analysis software.

Previous experience in the field of CMB foregrounds will be an advantage

Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to independently manage a research area within the overall project, to contribute to the Scientific output of the project and to communicate the results via papers and presentations

The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.
