Announcement
Job Announcement Text:

A postdoctoral position of 3 years will be available within the new planet formation group of Dr. Nienke van der Marel located at Leiden Observatory, the Netherlands. The position is centered around the theoretical aspects of planet formation and protoplanetary disks, to connect with observational studies with e.g. ALMA.

The postdoc will be part of a diverse international team studying observations and theory of protoplanetary disks. Nienke van der Marel's group is part of a larger collaborative group of astronomers at Leiden Observatory and SRON working on protoplanetary disks, exoplanets, astrochemistry and planet formation. The postdoc will provide the theoretical expertise required to link disk observations with exoplanet studies. They are expected to co-supervise PhD or MSc students and are encouraged to pursue their own research. The position can start any time in Spring 2022 or later.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in astronomy or physics. Candidates with a theoretical background in dust evolution, planet formation theory, hydrodynamics, planet-disk interaction, planet population synthesis and other relevant fields with an interest in the connection with the observations are encouraged to apply.

Leiden Observatory is a lively world-class institute carrying out observational, interpretative and theoretical research in the fields of the star and planet formation, laboratory astrophysics, exoplanets, galaxies and their nuclei, and cosmology. Postdocs are appointed as civil servants with full benefits.

Applications should be submitted electronically at https://jobs.strw.leidenuniv.nl/2021/PFPD/ by the deadline of 30 November 2021. A complete application includes a CV, publication list, and a three-page statement of research experience and interests.
