Job Description

The Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP), located in the greater Berlin metropolitan area, invites applications for a

Postdoctoral associate position in the area of star-exoplanet systems.

The successful candidate is expected to work in an original research area that relates to exoplanets and/or their host stars. The focus of the research should be observational or in the field of comparing theory/simulations to observations. The candidate’s research program should connect to the existing research topics in the group of Prof. Katja Poppenhäger. Current areas of research are: exoplanet studies using spectroscopy and photometry, exoplanet atmosphere evaporation, the stellar age-activity-rotation relationship, stellar flares, and star-planet interaction. The AIP provides excellent opportunities for observational research, for example through available telescope time at the Large Binocular Telescope and the institute-owned STELLA telescopes.

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in astrophysics or a related discipline at the time of starting the position. Applicants are expected to have solid experience in exoplanet or host star research, backed up by an appropriate publication record.

We aim to fill this position in summer 2020. The initial appointment will be made for 2 years, with a possible extension by additional 2 years. The salary will be based on the German public service scale (TV-L E13).

Applications for the postdoctoral position should be submitted via the AIP job application portal https://jobs.aip.de/rec056 and contain a cover letter, a curriculum vitae including publication list, and a statement of research experience and future plans, the latter not exceeding 3 pages. Applicants should also provide the contact information for 3 reference letter writers via the application portal.

The AIP is an equal opportunity employer who values diversity and particularly encourages women and other underrepresented groups to apply.
