Job Description

The Institute of Radioastronomy y Astrophyscis (IRyA) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in numerical and theoretical star formation, to work in the group led by Prof. Enrique Vazquez-Semadeni. The
appointment is for one year, renewable for a second year depending on performance, and will be held at the Morelia, Michoacan, Campus of UNAM.

The successful applicant is expected to carry out original research in the area of theory, numerical simulations and synthetic observations of star formation in molecular clouds, with particular emphasis on star formation rates, fragmentation and the interaction of gravity and turbulence. By the starting date of the appointment, applicants should have a PhD in astronomy, physics, or related discipline, earned within the last six years.  Knowledge of English and/or Spanish is essential. The salary is commensurate with international standards.

The successful applicant will have access to the San Pedro Martir National Astronomical Observatory, Baja California, and can also
compete for the Mexican share of observing time on the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) and on the Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT) in Puebla, Mexico. The IRyA has extensive computing facilities on site, including a purpose-built high-performance computing center containing a 368-core and a 1100-core cluster, and has access to UNAM's supercomputer center, which includes a 5320-core, 16-GPU cluster.
