The Lehigh University Physics Department invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) to begin in summer 2022. The VAP will teach the equivalent of two courses each semester, starting fall semester 2022, with the appointment lasting two years, contingent on adequate performance. The classes may include introductory and upper level astrophysics classes, classes in physics, interdisciplinary seminars for first-year students, along with supervision of undergraduate research projects. We seek a candidate with an active research program that can incorporate undergraduate students in meaningful research activities. The VAP will also contribute to the scientific life of the department with participation in colloquiums, research group meetings, and other department activities.
Candidates from all fields of astrophysics and related areas of physics are encouraged to apply. We seek a candidate with a commitment to an inclusive and collaborative academic community. Individuals from populations traditionally underrepresented and underserved in physics – women, persons of color, persons with disabilities, and persons of all gender identities and/or sexual orientations – are strongly encouraged to apply.
The candidate should have a PhD in physics or astronomy by August 2022. The application will consist of the following:
- Cover letter
- CV
- Statement of teaching experience and philosophy (up to 2 pages)
- Statement of research experience, future research plans, and advising student projects (up to 2 pages)
- Names of 3 references
Applications should be submitted as a single, combined PDF document in the order listed above, sent as an email attachment to [email protected]. Evaluations of the applications will begin March 1, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled. Inquiries about the position should be sent to Prof Joshua Pepper ([email protected]).
