Center for Astro, Particle and Planetary Physics (CAP3)
NYU Abu Dhabi
The newly established Center for Astro, Particle and Planetary Physics (CAP3) at NYU Abu Dhabi is looking to hire several research fellows.
The center currently consists of ten faculty members and more than 25 researchers and PhD students. CAP3 is structured around four key research areas:
- Astroparticle Physics
- Earth and Planetary Science
- Galaxy Components (e.g., stars, neutron stars, black holes, supernovae, SMBH, ISM and IGM)
CAP3 includes faculty members from the physics and the mathematics programs at NYUAD, the Center for Space Science at NYUAD, and elsewhere in the NYU Global Network, including several members of the Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics at NYU New York.
The Center possesses the unique possibility to investigate fundamental questions in astrophysics, astroparticle physics and planetary physics from several points of view, with the expertise of its members ranging from collecting and analyzing state-of-the-art data on the nature of the visible and invisible matter in the Universe, to detailed theoretical and numerical studies from planets to galaxies, and linking them together cohesively.
We expect successful applicants to work towards improving the collaborations and connections among the different areas.
The center fellows will have direct access to a 50,000 core Infiniband Cluster (Dalma2) dedicated to the Science division and other supercomputer facilities through the CAP3 network. NYUAD is an institutional member of the SDSS-IV and XENON collaborations, a partner in the DARWIN experiment, and has guaranteed observing time on the Green Bank Telescope, the Very Long Baseline Array, Las Cumbres Observatory.
Applicants should have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or closely related field. The appointment will be for a period of three years. CAP3 fellows will have dedicated funds for traveling, computing, publications, etc.
The preferred starting date is Fall of 2020, but earlier or later dates are also possible.
Applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, publication list, a brief (ideally 2-3 pages) statement of research interests, and three letters of recommendation. Applicants are strongly encouraged to outline how they plan to contribute to create interdisciplinary connections within the research areas of the CAP3 center.
To submit your application, please apply here: https://apply.interfolio.com/69173. Applications are open until December 31, 2019. If you have any questions, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
New York University has established itself as a Global Network University, a multi-site, organically connected network encompassing key global cities and idea capitals. The network has three foundational degree-granting campuses: New York, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai, complimented by a network of eleven research and study-away sites across five continents.
Entering its 11th year, NYU Abu Dhabi has recruited a cohort of faculty who are at once distinguished in their research and teaching. Our students are drawn from around the world and surpass all traditional recruitment benchmarks, both US and global. NYU Abu Dhabi’s highly selective liberal arts enterprise is complimented by an institute for advanced research, sponsoring cutting-edge projects across the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, and Engineering.
