The Department of Physics invites applications for STFC-funded Postdoctoral Research Associates in theoretical and observational research on the topics of “Multi-messenger probes of neutron star physics (Theory)” (Dr David Tsang), “The modern radio view of gamma-ray burst afterglows (Theory/Numerical)” (Dr Hendrik van Eerten) and “Connecting the absorption and emission line view of the cosmic chemical enrichment (Observational)” (Dr Patricia Schady).
We welcome candidates with experience in computational, theoretical and observational astrophysics with interests in time-domain astrophysics, high-energy astrophysics, neutron star physics, nuclear astrophysics, and galaxy chemical enrichment.
About us
You will work alongside members of the Bath Astrophysics Group, whose research interests include compact objects, cosmology, galaxy structure and kinematics, time-domain astrophysics, stellar populations, star formation, and ISM conditions.
The Bath Astrophysics Group is a full consortium member of the multiplexed ESO/4MOST spectroscopic survey and the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA), providing proprietary access to data from both these facilities for the duration of the PDRA.
The University of Bath provides access to both onsite and cloud HPC facilities, as well as time on the GW4 network’s “Isambard” Tier 2 high-performance computing service.
Further information
All positions are funded for three years, with an anticipated start date in the Spring or Summer of 2023.
Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr David Tsang ([email protected]), Dr Hendrik van Eerten ([email protected]) or Dr Patricia Schady ([email protected]).
As part of your application, you should upload your curriculum vitae, publication list, and research statement.
