The Centre de Physique des Particules de Marseille (CPPM-CNRS/IN2P3 - Aix-Marseille Université) opens a two-year post-doctoral research position in observational cosmology. The successful candidate will join the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope project (LSST) and the Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC). She/he will be part of the CPPM group that focuses on the preparation of the DESC analysis of the supernova cosmological probe.
The CPPM observational cosmology group is currently affiliated with current supernovae projects : SNLS and SNFactory, with spectroscopic surveys Boss, eBoss and
with the future large survey projects : LSST, Euclid and DESI. Current main activities of the LSST group covers cosmology with supernova, photometric redshift and calibration based on the use of the GAIA survey. In parallel, the team is leading an interdisciplinary effort to develop new deep learning techniques for astrophysics.
The candidate is expected join our main stream of preparing the supernova science and/or to pursue its own research program with commitment that part of his work will directly benefit to one or several of our main activities that covers precise photometry (pixel processing and calibration) and data mining/analysis using deep learning. Access to current survey is encouraged (current public data (like HSC/DES) as well as not-yet-released data (on invitation mode)).
A Ph.D. degree in Astrophysics, Astroparticle or High Energy physics is required. Practice on observational data analysis and skills in computer programming are a must.
The contract will start on Nov 1st 2018 or on Dec 1st, 2018, and is reserved to candidates with no more than 2 years of professional experience after PhD.
