The young Astronomy Nucleus at Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral research position in Galactic Archaeology funded by the ALMA-Conicyt programme for the development of Astronomy in Chile. The position will be focused on the scientific exploitation of on-going and future large spectroscopic surveys in this era of big data. In particular, we are seeking applicants interested in the development of statistical pattern recognition tools to analyse data of twin stars.
While at UDP, the successful candidate will qualify as member of the Chilean community and will be eligible for the 10% privileged access to all telescopes in Chile, including Gemini South, VLT, La Silla, Magellan, CTIO, SOAR, APEX, ALMA, etc, and therefore independent research will be strongly encouraged. The position includes a competitive salary, a generous travel budget as well as for computing resources. The starting date of the position is negotiable.
