Job Description

We invite applications for a full-time,lecturer in physics, beginning in Fall 2023. The position is for a period of three years, with the possibility of renewal. Lecturers can go up for promotion to senior lecturer after six years. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy or a closely related field and the potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching. The suitable candidate is expected to teach introductory physics classes and labs to engineering students and pre-medical students, general education science classes, and may have the opportunity to teach upper-level classes for the physics major. Lecturers are expected to teach four courses across three trimesters each year.  In addition, the lecturer will have co-curricular responsibilities including managing the introductory physics and astronomy laboratory equipment and set-ups. We seek a candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to student-centered undergraduate education. We welcome applicants from the traditionally underrepresented groups. 

 

Union is a highly selective liberal arts college with an engineering program, which includes degrees in mechanical, electrical, biomedical, and computer engineering, and which is in the process of expanding to include civil and environmental engineering.  It is located in the Capital District of New York State, a region heavily engaged in science and R&D. The Department of Physics and Astronomy (www.physics.union.edu) includes eleven full-time faculty in a variety of fields including astrophysics, atomic physics, computational biophysics, environmental physics, geophysics, nuclear and particle physics, materials science, and art restoration research.
