PFS INSTRUMATION SFTWRE ENGINEER – ID# 221091. 

National Astronomical Observatory of Japan.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position w/NAOJ, Subaru Telescope, in Hilo, HI. Continuation of emplymnt is dependent upon prog/oper needs, satisfactory wrk perf, avail of funds & compliance w/applicable Federal/State laws. 

MIN MONTHLY SALARY:  $4,553/Mon.

DUTIES:  Prov prof sftwre eng anlysis, design/implement/test & maint of sftwre & comp sys for Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS) & other astronom instrum, processes & related peripheral subsys. Focus on PFS sftwre wrk as proj proceeds thru commissioning to open-use, may become involved w/other projs. Drives proj veh to access summit. May be req to provide night supp for eng & observing runs.

PRIM QUALS: EDUC/TRNG:  Bachelor’s Deg from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Elec, Sftwre, or Mech Eng, Math, or phys sci.  EXPER:  Three to five (3-5) years of exper in anlysis, design & prod of Linux sys & apps sftwre for control of astronom or other scientific or eng instrum & processes.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Proficiency in C/C++, Python, Java & sys & app prog on Linux sys. Knowl of design, implementation & maint of concurrent/netwrk-distrib sys. Knowl of implementation & maint of comp-ctrlled motion ctrl sys. Knowl of admin of Linux comp sys, incl config, tuning for perf & trbleshting. Knowl of comp comm protocols incl TCP/IP & serial. Abil to anlyze, define, design, implement, test, eval & maint complex sftwre sys. Must possess a valid driver’s lic (& if use of pers veh is req, must have valid personal driver’s insur equiv to Hawai‘i’s No- Fault Driver’s Insur) & maint throughout duration of emplymnt. Must be able to drive a 4WD veh w/manual trans. PHYS/MED REQS:  Post Offer/Emplymnt Cond: Must be able to wrk at 14,000ft & pass post offer high-alt medical exam. POLICY &/OR REG REQS: As cond of emplymnt, emp will be subj to all appl RCUH policies & proc & as appl, subj to UH's &/or business entity's policies & proc.  Viol of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies &/or proc or applicable State or Federal laws &/or regs may lead to disciplinary action (incl, but not limited to poss term of emplymnt, pers fines, civil &/or crim penalties, etc.).
