Postdoctoral Research Associate in Blazar Astrophysics

Applicants are invited to submit their application materials for an open postdoctoral research position with Prof. Jedidah Isler at Dartmouth College, focusing on observational and theoretical aspects of blazars and jetted AGN. In addition to contributing significantly to the extant research program conducted in the Isler blazar group, the candidate is expected to outline an independent, but relevant research program that will use publicly available archives, data collected using Dartmouth’s institutional access to MDM and SALT and time allocated on spaceborne instruments to investigate the blazar zone in jetted AGNs. Computational and theoretical approaches to understanding blazar emissions are also welcomed and will compliment the group.

The successful applicant will work independently and collaboratively in a growing research group consisting of undergraduates and graduate students. Interest in and experience at mentoring students' research projects is preferred, as is a demonstrated commitment to inclusive and accessible research cultures. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent in astronomy, astrophysics, computer science or closely related field. Experience in multiwavelength data collection and analysis is much preferred. This appointment will be for an initial period of two years, with the possibility for an additional year, to be discussed at the end of year one. The preferred start date is August 2020 or earlier. The position includes funds for travel, publications and computing and offers a competitive salary with health benefits.
