The major role of the Opto-Mechanical Engineer is to support the project as a whole, but mainly the mechanical engineering group. This includes mechanical design and drafting, documentation, small procurements and prompt interaction with vendors, installation of hardware in the laboratory and on the Magdalena Ridge, mechanical hardware alignment, testing of equipment and operations. The opto-mechanical engineer will work both in the MRO offices on NMT campus in Socorro and at the Observatory on Magdalena Ridge.
Bachelor’s degree required in Mechanical Engineering. Solid works modeling required. Matlab coding desired. Experience designing mechanical components required. A valid NM Driver’s License required.
