Job Description

A postdoctoral fellowship of two to three years in duration is expected to become available in September 2022 at the Physics and Astronomy Department of the University of Victoria, BC, Canada. Successful candidates are expected to pursue original research in Theoretical or Observational Astrophysics, under the general supervision of Prof. Julio Navarro, and in close collaboration with Prof. Kim Venn and Prof. Alan McConnachie. Preference will be given to candidates with interests overlapping our current research interests: cosmological simulations of structure and galaxy formation, the nature of dark matter, as well as "near-field cosmology" studies of dwarf galaxies, the Milky Way, and the Local Group of Galaxies. The successful candidate will have access to Canadian observational and computing facilities, and will benefit from the strong links between the Astronomy Research Centre, the NRC Herzberg Research Centre, and TRIUMF, as well as from our association with a number of computational and observational initiatives, such as the Virgo Consortium, the Pristine Survey, and the CFIS/UNIONS survey, among others. Individuals interested in pursuing studies aimed to bridge the gap between cosmological simulations and observations of the Local Universe are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants should submit, in a single PDF file attachment, their curriculum vitae, bibliography and a brief statement of research interests to [email protected], and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent electronically to the same address. Review of applications will commence on January 1, 2022.
