Job Description

The Department of Astronomy (http://astro.ustc.edu.cn/) at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) invites applications for 1-2 postdoctoral positions to start in the fall of 2019. Successful applicants will join an exciting astrophysics group to explore topics including the development and research on Transition Edge Sensor (TES), Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detector (MKID), Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID), and the related astronomical instrumentation. USTC is deeply involved in the Chinese CMB project: Ali CMB Polarization Telescope (AliCPT), including the hardware development, theoretical research and data analysis. In hardware development aspect, we have the growing research group and the access to the Microelectronic processing platform (USTC Center for Micro- and Nanoscale Research and Fabrication) and the Extreme low temperature test system. The successful applicants will participate in the AliCPT project.

USTC is among the top-ranked universities in China and is committed to provide strong support to postdoctoral researchers. The successful applicants will receive an annual salary of 140,000 RMB at minimum, up to 180,000 RMB. A successful applicant can compete for an annual salary of 200,000 RMB for the first two years, under the condition that she/he holds a Ph.D. from an institution ranked among top 100 globally in one of the widely recognized world university rankings. In addition to the annual salary, the university provides a housing allowance of 1,000 RMB per month and benefits on children daycare. All successful applicants are encouraged to apply for the Youth Innovation Research Fund supported by USTC (with the amount of 100,000 – 120,000 RMB and the supporting rate of about 50%).

Applicants of all nationalities are welcome, and are expected to have received a Ph.D. in astronomy or a related discipline before commencing the position. Successful applicants are expected to work with one or some of the faculty members listed in the above website. The appointment is awarded for two years and could be extended for up to 6 additional years (with a title of non-tenure research associate professor) contingent on performance and funding. Promotions to tenure positions (full professor, associate professor) are also expected for candidates with outstanding performance.
