Mechanical Design Engineer - Cryogenic Systems
Job Summary
Job Description
Applications are invited for the post of Mechanical Design Engineer in the Engineers group which provides design support for physics research.
The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 3 years.
The successful candidate will design, analyse and arrange for the production of components, mechanical moving parts, test rigs and experimental equipment for physics research. A large portion of the work is in the area of precision instrumentation for experimental physics, with a focus on the design and analysis of opto-mechanical systems operating at cryogenic temperatures (typically ~100K, ~4K).
You should be able to develop a concept into something practical and take ‘ownership’ of it.
Applicants should possess a degree in mechanical engineering or have equivalent experience. In the latter case, two references are required which specifically details the applicant’s professional level and explains how these are considered equivalent to the required qualification. They should have a strong background in the use of 3-D mechanical CAD design software with sound knowledge of established drawing standards and design methods and with a good understanding of the mechanical behaviour of structures.
Previous experience in a research environment will be an advantage.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate that they can manage projects from conceptual design to the manufacturing and final assembly and testing.
Please direct enquiries about the role to Johan Fopma ([email protected]).
You will be required to upload a letter of application/supporting statement, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
Only applications received before 12.00 midday 25 October 2019 can be considered.
