Job Description

We invite applications for a PhD scholarship in astrophysical magnetic field/plasma astrophysics. The successful applicant will join the research group led by Prof. Huirong Yan at University of Potsdam and Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) and work on topics involving any of the following topics: spectropolarimetry, magnetic field, turbulence and cosmic rays. The starting date any time in 2021. The position is for three years and is expected to lead to PhD degree at the Uni Potsdam.

Potsdam is one of the four major locations for astrophysical research in Germany, characterized by a very wide range of research topics in both observation and theory at University of Potsdam and through its networking with three internationally leading intitutions: AIP, and Albert Einstein Institute, in addition to DESY that sponsors the PhD fellowship. As one of Germany’s largest research centres, DESY carries out fundamental research in various areas including astroparticle physics.

Candidates with Master degree in physics or astrophysics can directly apply. Applicants with bachelor’s degree should first apply to the international master program at University of Potsdam before joining the group. Desired skills include training in astrophysics or plasma physics, strong mathematical background or experience in spectropolarimetry. Proficiency in English is mandatory.
