Job Description

Department of History at the National University of Singapore invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in Public History/Heritage to commence in August 2022. Applicants with a Ph.D. in History or Public History at the time of appointment are preferred but we will consider applications from relevant disciplines.

We seek applications from candidates with demonstrated experience in conducting collaborative projects with museums, archives, heritage organizations, local communities, and public agencies. The position is open to scholars in any geographic and chronological specialization, with a preference for candidates who can customize the theory and practice of Public History for Asian contexts, work with digital methods, and excel in interdisciplinary approaches. Scholars and practitioners working in archival theory, museology and museography, built landscapes, heritage policy, and public agencies that employ history for policymaking are also encouraged to apply. Candidates must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in research and teaching and have a record of (or clear potential for) distinguished scholarship, grant-funded research, and student mentorship at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Application dossiers should include complete list of publications, research interests, public historical work, and teaching experience, as well as any other relevant information; a covering letter explaining why the position at NUS is of interest; and the names and contact information of no less than four referees. Review of applications will begin on February 15th 2022. The search will continue until an appointment is made.

With effect from 15 January 2022, based on Singapore’s legal requirements, unvaccinated workers will not be able to work at the NUS premises. As such, we wish to highlight that job applicants need to be fully COVID-19 vaccinated for successful employment with NUS.
