This person together with the project PI team will be responsible for developing and executing the design, construction and operation of the most advanced imaging radio telescope in the world. The Project Manager for the DSA-2000 will supervise execution of the project scope, schedule and budget. They will manage the project contingency and risk register and will coordinate mitigating actions with the PI team. They will maintain best practises for project management across the project, coordinating closely with the PI team, the Project Engineer, the broader DSA-2000 team, funding agencies and local authorities for the project site. The selected applicant will be based at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO), a world class facility operated by Caltech for research in radio astronomy, located near Bishop in central California. They will join a team of skilled scientists and engineers who manage a range of facilities operating from meter- to millimeter wavelengths, with observations extending from nearby exoplanets to the early universe. The successful applicant will coordinate closely with scientists and engineers at Caltech and DSA-2000 partner institutes to ensure the successful implementation of the DSA-2000 project. The Observatory is in the Eastern Sierra, which affords an excellent environment for outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, and skiing.

The Project Manager for the DSA-2000 will supervise execution of the project scope, schedule and budget.
• Managing the project contingency and risk register and coordinating mitigating actions with the PI team;
• Maintain best practices for project management across the project, coordinating closely with the PI team, the Project Engineer, the broader DSA-2000 team, funding agencies and local authorities for the project site;
• Managing the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for the project coordinating closely with consultants, the Bureau of Land Management and the local population in establishing a site and ongoing lease for the DSA-2000 array;
• Managing the specification and procurement of site infrastructure, including buildings, power transmission or generation, and access roads;
• Organizing regular and ad hoc in-person and videoconference meetings to track progress and keep teams up to date;
• The successful applicant will closely coordinate with the current DSA-2000 Project Manager during a 6-month transitional period.
• Among the critical tasks are the interactions with other agencies, major contractors and funding agencies along with reporting to and receiving input from various oversight and review boards.
• Bachelor's or higher degree in engineering, astronomy, physical science, or a closely related field is required.
• 8-10 years of experience in a leadership role within a large technical project.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are critical.
• PMI PMP certification and INCOSE ASEP or higher certification;
• Experience with a large astronomy project, particularly radio astronomy;
• Experience in technology domains related to radio astronomy is preferred, such as electromagnetic, RF, digital signal processing, mechanical, software and civil engineering;
• Familiarity with collaboration applications (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams, Atlassian Jira);
• Experience with project management software;
• Knowledge of EIS procedures;
• Experience with document control;
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams of engineers, scientists, and technicians locally and remotel
