Job Description

The Department of Astronomy at Boston University seeks applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position to begin on July 1, 2023. This position is one of a number of positions that will be associated with a new Cosmology Initiative involving the Department of Astronomy and the Department of Physics (see also https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/22339). Searches to fill the first two positions are being carried out in AY22/23, and a search to fill a third position in AY23/24 is anticipated.

For this position we encourage applications from candidates with expertise in cosmological astrophysics, including development of new instruments and/or state-of-the-art data science techniques. The successful candidate will be an early-career scientist who will lead robust research programs and participate fully in the teaching missions at the introductory, majors, and graduate levels in the Astronomy Department. Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Astronomy, Physics, or related field, with postdoctoral experience expected.

The Astronomy Department is committed to valuing the principles of inclusion, equity, and diversity in all academic and research settings at Boston University through building a collegial and supportive community of scholars and students. Applications should be submitted at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/22338. Complete applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and brief statements of research interests (2 pages), teaching interests (1 page), and experience with diversity, inclusion, equity, and outreach (1 page). Candidates should arrange for three confidential letters of reference to be submitted through that website. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled. Inquiries may be directed to Department Administrator Anne Smartvlasak ([email protected]), Department of Astronomy.
