Job Summary
Job Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Texas A&M University-Commerce invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The position will begin in January 2019, and is contingent upon the availability of funds. Our department has strong ongoing research efforts in nuclear astrophysics, observational astrophysics, physics education research, and laboratory physics. We especially encourage applications from candidates with experience in computational astrophysics and/or analysis of large data sets, however, outstanding candidates in all areas will be considered. The new faculty member will be expected to carry out a vigorous, externally-funded research program including research projects for undergraduate and graduate students, advise students, and participate fully in the teaching program of the department. A Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field is required; significant postdoctoral research experience is desirable. Our department and university are dedicated to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment. We encourage applications from individuals who are committed to furthering these causes. We especially welcome applicants from groups traditionally underrepresented in physics and astronomy. Application evaluations will begin on September 1, 2018. Applications should include a curriculum vitae containing a list of publications, and names and contact information for at least three references. Competitive applications will also include concise statements of research interests and accomplishments as well as teaching experience and philosophy. The Texas A&M University-Commerce offers over 100 undergraduate degrees to over 13,000 students. The campus is located one hour from Dallas in a rural setting.
