Job Announcement Text:

The Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University invites applications for 5 PhD positions. The department consists of about 80 employees. Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and has an international character. Most of the researchers have an international background and English is commonly used both at the department and in daily life. The following PhD projects are available for application:

Exoplanets: One PhD position is available for developing and using tools to analyse data coming from the space telescope CHEOPS, dedicated to characterise exoplanets through transit photometry. The project will be supervised by Dr. Alexis Brandeker (alexis@astro.su.se) who is a member of the CHEOPS Science Team and who coordinates the Swedish contributions to CHEOPS.

Stars: One position is offered for a project that focuses on stellar spectroscopy using advanced numerical simulations of the stellar surface in 3-dimensions and in non-local thermodynamic equilibrium. The research group, led by Dr. Karin Lind (karin.lind@astro.su.se), works within the framework of million-star surveys of the Milky Way. They are part of large international survey teams that map the chemical composition, ages and dynamics of stars to study the formation history of the Galaxy, the physics of stars, and the origin on chemical elements.

Supernovae: Three positions are available to work on observations and modeling of supernovae and kilonovae. These positions are with Dr. Ragnhild Lunnan (ragnhild.lunnan@astro.su.se; observations of supernovae), Dr. Mattia Bulla (mattia.bulla@astro.su.se; modeling of thermonuclear supernovae and/or kilonovae), and Dr. Evan O’Connor (evan.oconnor@astro.su.se; modeling of core-collapse supernovae). The positions will be within the broader supernovae group and the computational astrophysics group in the department.

Further information about qualifications requirements, selection procedure, terms of employment, contact details and application form link can be found here . Applications will open on 2021-04-02 and close 2021-04-23.

Included Benefits:

The positions include full Swedish social benefits: e.g. medical insurance and parental leave.
