The Department of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University seeks applications for a tenure-track position in time-domain astrophysics. The Department is growing rapidly, with four new hires last year and three additional hires (including this position) anticipated this year.
Embedded in the Department and the University is the McWilliams Center for Cosmology. The McWilliams Center fosters collaboration among the local community of astrophysicists, cosmologists, statisticians, and computer and data scientists. Members are active in many of the present and upcoming astronomical surveys, including LSST (in which we are institutional members), SDSS-IV, DES, HSC, Gaia, DESI, Euclid, WFIRST, and several CMB experiments. We encourage applications from candidates whose research programs will exploit sensitivity of these or other data sets to time-dependent and/or transient phenomena.
The Department is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Carnegie Mellon University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer — M/F/Disability/Veteran.
The appointment is expected to be at the Assistant Professor level with a start date of September 1, 2019, although for exceptionally qualified candidates an appointment at a higher rank could be considered. Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, publication list, a brief statement of research plans and teaching plans, and a cover letter; and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be uploaded to Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/53786
For full consideration, all materials should be received by November 1, 2018.
