Sun Yat-sen University
Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was founded in 1924 and currently hosts five campuses: three in the cosmopolitan city of Guangzhou, one in Shenzhen, and one in Zhuhai, a beautiful seashore town next to Macau. SYSU has developed into a comprehensive university covering a wide range of disciplines including arts, science, and technology. At the heart of the Greater Bay area, a thriving academic and economic region, it has become a leading educational and academic institution in southern China.
Department of Astronomy
Newly established in 2019, Department of Astronomy, SYSU, is located in Zhuhai. It aims to produce undergraduates and graduates with a strong foundation in physics and astrophysics. The Department currently has interests in galaxy formation and cosmology, gravitational-wave and high-energy astrophysics, stellar physics, planet formation and exoplanet search. The department is leading the Chinese Survey Space Telescope (CSST) Science Center in the Greater Bay region, a national platform to support scientific activities of CSST. The department also has close connection with the TianQin Research Center working on a planned array of space-borne gravitational wave detectors.
