Position Summary:
The University of Arizona Department of Astronomy and Steward Observatory invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to work with Dr. Xiaohui Fan and colloaborators on areas of Extragalactic Astronomy. Expertise in high-redshift quasars/AGN, galaxy formation and cosmic relonization, or experience in optical/IR observations and large imaging surveys is highly resired, but not required.
The successful applicant will be working with Dr. Fan's research group, and is strongly encouraged to carry out independent, original research. He/she will have full access to the observational facilities of the University of Arizona, including the 2x8.4m Large Binocular Telescope, the 6.5m MMT Telescope, the two 6.5m Magellan Telescopes, the 3.8m UKIRT Telescope, the 2.3m Bok Telescope, the 1.8m Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope, the 10m Heinrich-Hertz Submillimeter Telescope, the Kitt Peak 12m mm-wave Telescope as well as advanced computing facilitiies at Steward Observatory. The University of Arizona is a full member of the SDSS-IV, DESI and LSST collaborations.
The appointment will be for two years initially, with the possible renewal for a third year based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
Minimum Qualifications:
By the start date (Fall 2017), the candidate must have a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics or related field.
