The MIT Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Science (MKI) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position in the area of observational extragalactic astrophysics. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Christina Eilers and Prof. Robert Simcoe on high-redshift quasars and galaxies using observational, numerical and/or statistical methods. Our group is currently working on various programs using both ground- and space-based observatories (e.g. HST, JWST, VLT/MUSE, the upcoming IFU instrument LLAMAS on Magellan, Magellan/FIRE). MIT has institutional access to the 6.5-meter Magellan Telescopes at Las Campanas, as well as the new infrared time-domain telescope WINTER. A fraction of the successful candidate's time is expected to be devoted to independent research.
Candidates with expertise in all areas of extragalactic astronomy are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a PhD in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field at the time of appointment. The position will be for a two-year initial term, with extension for a third year dependent upon performance and the availability of funds. The appointment is expected to start on or before September 1, 2022, but the starting date is negotiable.
Review of applications will begin on January 1, 2022, and continue until the position is filled. Applications should be submitted via email to Dr. Christina Eilers ([email protected]) comprising a statement of research accomplishments and interests (approximately 2-3 pages), a CV including a list of publications, and a statement on mentoring, diversity, and/or outreach (1 page). The applicant should ensure that three letters of recommendation are submitted by the closing date directly via email. Any questions or inquiries about the position can be directed to Dr. Christina Eilers.
MIT is an equal employment opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, ancestry, or national or ethnic origin.
