The position will be based at the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy (CIRA), which is located in Perth, Western Australia, and has recently been ranked amongst the top twenty most liveable cities in the world (The Economist, 2018).  CIRA comprises over 80 staff and PhD students, primarily focused on radio astronomy research, but also spanning many other aspects of observational astronomy, radio astronomy engineering, applications of high-performance computing in astronomy, and astrophysics theory.

CIRA forms one half of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) Joint Venture with The University of Western Australia.  CIRA researchers maintain excellent linkages with these and other national and international groups, and make extensive use of the nearby Pawsey Supercomputing Centre.

CIRA is at the forefront of low frequency radio astronomy research as the manager and operator of the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA; The MWA is a fully-operational Square Kilometre Array (SKA) precursor facility, undertaking science programs spanning transients, pulsars, Galactic and extragalactic radio astronomy, the Epoch of Reionisation, solar and ionospheric physics, as well as radio astronomy engineering. Your new role
The Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy (CIRA) is seeking to appoint a new continuing faculty member as a Teaching and Research academic, at either Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor level, as appropriate.  The successful candidate will have an excellent research track record in areas aligned with, or complementary to, CIRA’s existing astrophysics research strengths, which are primarily in the areas of pulsars and fast radio bursts, accretion and jet physics, the epoch of reionisation, and extragalactic radio science.  Preference will be given to candidates with some level of theoretical expertise, especially those who can work closely with observational astronomers and/or engineers.  Active engagement with new and upcoming facilities is strongly encouraged, especially the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and its Precursor facilities.
The successful candidate should have an established record of obtaining research funding, and will be expected to augment the locally available support and grow their research program through nationally competitive grant applications (or equivalent).  They will have experience in developing and delivering undergraduate courses, and will contribute to teaching delivery, unit co-ordination and curriculum development within the discipline of Physics and Astronomy.  They will be expected to build on an established record of successful undergraduate and postgraduate research student supervision, and will provide leadership within the CIRA Science group, engaging in appropriate service activities, both within CIRA and across the broader School.
