Research Fellow in Galaxy Evolution
Job Summary
Job Description
The Astronomy Group at the University of St Andrews (Scotland, UK) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to work on galaxy evolution. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the analysis and/or interpretation of extragalactic spectroscopic datasets. However, strong candidates with equivalent experience are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with Dr Vivienne Wild on projects including preparation for, and analysis and interpretation of data from, the forthcoming VLT/MOONS extragalactic survey.
The appointment will be for an initial period of two years with an extension for one year contingent on satisfactory performance. The nominal start date is September 2021, but other start dates may be possible. The candidate is expected to have a PhD in astronomy with relevant experience in the field of galaxy evolution. The position will involve collaboration with researchers across Europe and Chile in the VLT/MOONS team. The position includes funding for travel and priority access to a computer cluster.
Applications should be submitted online by 20th January and include a 2-page CV, publication list, and a statement (max. 3 pages) of research interests. This should include a summary of past research achievements and statement of future plans. Details of two academic referees should be provided and letters of reference will be requested following long-listing.
Applications are particularly welcome from members of the community who are under-represented in astronomy. The St Andrews Astronomy group offers a supportive and interactive working environment, with a high proportion of women. The School of Physics and Astronomy holds Athena Swan Silver and Juno Champion awards in recognition of action to address the under-representation of women and to embed better working practices for all staff.
