Job Description

The Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) invites applications for two postdoctoral fellow positions to work with Professor Dimitar Sasselov’s project on Exoplanets and the Planetary Origins of Life. The Sasselov Lab has open research positions for postdoctoral fellows with experimental background in nonlinear optics and/or femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy and pump-probe techniques; or photophysics and photochemistry of DNA and RNA and similar organics in general. The Sasselov Lab is developing laser pump-probe spectroscopy of ultrafast excited-state dynamics of small organic molecules in aqueous solution (UV-Vis-IR) collaborating with other labs as part of the Harvard Origins of Life Initiative. The successful applicants will lead and participate in laboratory, theoretical and/or observational projects in line with this mission. They will work with Professor Sasselov to mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

The position is for two years, renewable for a third year upon mutual agreement. The nominal starting date will be September 1, 2018, but an earlier or later start is negotiable depending on the applicant's availability. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, chemistry, or equivalent, by the date of appointment. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, list of publications, and a statement explaining research interests and qualifications, and arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent directly. To apply, please visit the Postdoctoral Fellows Application Site. Inquiries may be sent to to [email protected].

Applications that are complete by January 1, 2018 will receive full consideration. The CfA hosts a strong research program in astronomy/astrophysics/astrochemistry and provides a stimulating environment. Harvard University is an Equal Opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
