Applicants are invited for a postdoctoral scholar position beginning October 1st or earlier.
The postdoctoral fellow will work in Prof. Asantha Cooray’s group on topics related to extragalactic astronomy, data analysis topics in large-scale structure, infrared background and its fluctuation, and galaxy clustering studies. The position is related to group’s participation the SPHEREx mission. Extensive collaboration with SPHEREx teams based at Caltech/JPL is expected. SPHEREx is currently scheduled to be launched in April 2024 and the UCI group is leading the galaxy formation science objectives with SPHEREx deep field maps. Substantial involvement in the SPHEREx data analysis pipeline will retain SPHEREx membership rights at the end of the position.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent prior to beginning the appointment. A background in extragalactic astrophysics and familiarity with wide area imaging data analysis methods with Python and other tools are useful for this position.
The initial appointment will be for two years, with up to a total of five years contingent on successful performance and continued availability of funds for SPHEREx. Salary will be determined based on experience. The position includes significant research and travel funds.
