DEPARTMENT OF ASTRONOMY AND PHYSICS
SESSIONAL APPOINTMENT

The Department of Astronomy and Physics at Saint Mary's University invites applications for an eight-month
sessional position in Astronomy and Physics at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date is
September 1st, 2018, and the end date is April 30th, 2019. The Department is particularly interested in applicants
qualified to teach core areas of theoretical and experimental Physics up to the 3rd year level, and Astronomy up to
the 2nd year level. The successful candidate will possess at least an M.Sc. in a related field and a Ph.D. is viewed
favourably, and will be committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. The teaching load is six
courses (usually, but not necessarily, three per semester) for a faculty member with an M.Sc. as their highest degree,
and five courses for a faculty member with a Ph.D.

Saint Mary’s University identifies astronomy, computational sciences, and subatomic physics collectively as one of
its five major research themes. The Department of Astronomy and Physics is the centre for astronomy research in
Atlantic Canada, and consists of ten full-time faculty members, all with active research efforts in observational
astronomy, theoretical and computational astrophysics, and experimental subatomic physics. The Department
offers B.Sc. Major and Honours programs in Astrophysics and in Physics as well as M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in
