Job Description

Location: CEA Paris-Saclay, IRFU/Département d’Astrophysique, France
Deadline for application: February 9, 2024

The CEA astrophysics department (DAp) invites applications for a permanent research position, to begin before the end of the year 2024. DAp is part of the Institute of Research into the Fundamental Laws of the Universe (IRFU) at CEA Paris-Saclay. DAp is strongly involved in the ESA mission Euclid. Euclid will map dark matter over the entire extra-galactic sky to shed light on the nature of dark matter and dark energy. DAp has played a key role in building Euclid instrumentation. It is now deeply involved in the ground data processing and the scientific analysis, both on the cosmological probes and legacy science. DAp is also developing theoretical work and cosmological simulations in support of Euclid interpretation. Weak gravitational lensing is one of the main focuses of the DAp’s role in Euclid. With this job opening, we aim to reinforce cosmology at DAp and strengthen the scientific exploitation of the Euclid mission.

Candidates applying to this position should have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or a closely related field. They should be recognized experts in cosmology with a good knowledge of different cosmological probes, in particular weak lensing. Past or ongoing participation in a large project, especially Euclid, is beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate their capacity to lead research projects and coordinate working groups within the Euclid consortium.

CEA Paris-Saclay is located 20 km south of Paris, France, in the vicinity of various universities and other research centers. The Paris region contains numerous research institutes with whom the DAp collaborates (e.g. IAP, IAS Orsay, Observatory of Paris-Meudon, APC). DAp gathers more than 100 faculty and staff members, 50 postdoctoral fellows, and 30 PhD students. DAp offers a lively and very active research environment of the highest international standards. The research at DAp covers many areas of observational, theoretical, and applied astrophysics. CEA/IRFU is a full member of UNIONS and DESI, and engineers and scientists at DAp participate in collaborations and surveys such as LSST, SKA, JWST, ATHENA, INTEGRAL, and SVOM.

Generous funding for conferences, collaborations, personal equipment and publications is available. The salary for this position is very competitive, and includes excellent health insurance, social security benefits, and family support.
Applicants should submit by email (PDF format) their resume, motivation letter, bibliography and research plan to [email protected] and [email protected], and arrange for three reference letters to be sent before February 9, 2024.
