To better understand the inner workings of supermassive black holes, the network of the EHT has to be expanded with a new mm-wave radio telescope in Namibia: the Africa Millimetre Telescope (AMT). 

To lead the design and engineering efforts of the AMT project, we seek an experienced System Engineer.

You report to the AMT Project Director and work closely together with colleagues from other projects in the Radboud Radio Lab.

Responsibilities

  • Develop system concepts & define and track system requirements up to their verification
  • Develop models to estimate system performance, track error & tolerance budgets
  • Carry out trade-off analyses to support decision making
  • Manage engineering artefacts, procurement, assembly, integration & verification documents
  • Maintain traceability between artefacts
  • Assist in project planning and control
  • Coordinate engineering activities & support definition of system development processes
  • Participate in project, system & subsystem reviews

Profile

  • Master's degree in engineering, physics, astronomy or equivalent experience
  • Experience in scripting languages or modelling tools (Python, Matlab/Simulink)
  • Knowledge of or experience in the application of system engineering standards or best practices (e.g. INCOSE, ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, ECSS-E-10) is a plus
  • Knowledge of mm-wave astronomical instrumentation or research is a plus
  • Self-motivated & able to work independently
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills & attention to details
  • Proven experience of project management
  • Proficient in English
  • Expected start date as soon as possible
