Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Institut de Recherche sur les lois Fondamentales de l’Univers (IRFU) at CEA-Saclay, to work in observational cosmology with large spectroscopic surveys. The appointment is initially for two years with a possible extension for one additional year and is provided through a national grant from the French agency for research (ANR) awarded to the French Participation Group of eBOSS and collaborations within the member institutes (IAP, LPNHE, CPPM and LAM). Full funding is available for conferences, travel, personal equipment and publications.

A part of the research of the successful candidate is expected to be on Emission Line Galaxy and Quasar clustering for the analysis of the final eBOSS sample in 2019 and of the DESI early data with privileged access to the data of both collaborations. Applications with expertise in modeling of the clustering statistics, in the generation of mock catalogues or in the combination of different probes are strongly welcome. The other part of the research is left to the choice of the candidate who is encouraged to carry out an independent research program in relation with DESI science, to collaborate with other IRFU members, to participate in the activities of the Institute such as workshops, seminars and outreach, and to mentor students if interested.

The candidate will join a dynamic team highly involved in eBOSS and DESI, with strong connections to optical (DES, CFIS), CMB (Planck) and SZ (Planck clusters) surveys. The large-scale structure group includes 9 researchers, 7 PhD students and 1 postdoc. The project will benefit from other studies led at IRFU such as cosmological neutrinos, phenomenological dark matter and modified gravity models, but also cross-correlation analyses between large-scale structures and other probes (SZ signal from Planck, gravitational lensing). In particular, the group has close connections with the Institut de Physique Theorique (IPhT) of CEA-Saclay.

Applications should consist of a CV, a list of publications and a brief statement of research interests to be submitted electronically to [email protected]. Please arrange for 2 to 3 letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the above email address. All application material should be received by May. 10, 2018 and the contract is expected to start in the fall of 2018. Further questions and inquiries regarding this position can be asked to either Etienne Burtin ([email protected]) or Christophe Yèche ([email protected]).
