Job Description
This Fellowship is open to anyone who has their PhD in Astronomy or closely allied field or will receive it by 31 August 2020. Applicant’s research interest may be in any area of astronomy and astrophysics. Preference will the given to applicants in the following fields: Galactic archaeology, stellar astrophysics, and near-field cosmology. More info can be found at mcdonald.utexas.edu.
The observing facilities of McDonald Observatory available for research include the 9.2-m Hobby-Eberly Telescope, the 2.7-m Harlan J. Smith Telescope, the 2.1-m Otto Struve Telescope, and the 0.8-m wide-field imaging telescope. We also have access to the Las Cumbres network of telescopes. In addition, the facilities of the Texas Advanced Computing Center are available. The Fellowship includes funding for research expenses, including travel. Additional funds are available for relocation expenses. Initial appointment will be for one year beginning September 2020, with the expectation of renewal for a second and third year following satisfactory research performance. Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. upon arrival and to reside in Austin.
