Job Description

The Department of Physics (https://sciences.ucf.edu/physics/) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a lecturer position, anticipated to start in August 2019. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track position, renewed annually, with the possibility of a summer teaching assignment.

We seek candidates to teach large-enrollment sections of introductory astronomy and physics courses for a variety of majors as well as upper-division undergraduate courses in physics and astronomy. The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching. Familiarity with online/blended instructional methods and/or digital teaching and learning tools is desirable. Lecturers typically teach 3 courses per semester in the Fall and Spring and have some service assignment.

The Department of Physics has 52 full-time faculty members and offers B.S., B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. UCF is a leading metropolitan university with a diverse student body of over 68,000 students. We offer a dual-career hiring program, paid parental leave for both parents, and professional development and leadership training for faculty at all career stages. There is a career path for lecturers and the possibility of promotion based on years of service and performance.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution, and previous teaching experience at the university level.

As an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer, UCF encourages all qualified applicants to apply, including women, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and members of traditionally underrepresented populations (http://www.oie.ucf.edu/documents/PresidentsStatement.pdf). UCF makes all application materials and selection procedures available to the public upon request.

All applications and supporting documents to be submitted electronically through the website https://www.jobswithucf.com/postings/55649 and include: the online application, a cover letter including the contact information of at least 3 references, a CV, and a statement of teaching philosophy, training, and experience.
