Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research scientist appointment in the Cosmology and Structure Formation group of the Faculty of Physics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet (LMU-Munich).  The successful applicant will be expected to lead studies of cosmology and the growth of structure that rely on galaxy clusters and large scale structure.  Our group is centrally involved in preparations for eROSITA (launch 2018) as well as the ongoing cluster science in the South Pole Telescope (SPT-SZ, SPTpol and SPT-3G) and the Dark Energy Survey (DES).  In addition, the new group member will be invited to join the Euclid and LSST projects.  The successful candidate will pursue their own research program and will have the opportunity to work closely with PhD and Masters students as well as other postdoctoral scholars and senior scientists in the group.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in astronomy or physics. The appointment will begin in late 2017 or 2018.  This is a German civil service position (Akademischer Rat or Academic Council) open to all qualified individuals, regardless of nationality.  German language skills are not required.   The initial appointment will be made for three years with the possibility of extension up to six years, pending adequate research progress.  Please send a CV, a publication list, and a research statement.  In addition, please arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to Prof Mohr.  Applications should be received by September 1, 2017.
