Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, to work on the scientific exploitation of the Gaia mission. Candidates with expertise in observational or theoretical aspects of Galactic structure, dynamics or Galactic archaeology are encouraged to apply.
The candidate will be embedded Prof. Amina Helmi's research group and thus will also have the opportunity to be involved in preparations and exploitation of the WEAVE and 4MOST projects in the context of Gaia follow-up. The Kapteyn Institute offers a stimulating environment with scientific staff working on a variety of topics ranging from the formation of planets to near- and far-field cosmology.
The appointment is initially for 2 years, renewable for a third year upon mutual agreement. The preferred starting date is in the fall of 2018 but later dates can be negotiated. The position comes with a competitive salary, funding for travel and computer resources, and full social benefits.
