Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at Tuorla observatory, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Turku. The postdoc is expected to do independent research work in the field of theoretical high-energy astrophysics, in particular, on physics of neutron stars and black holes, and to participate in teaching of the basic- and advanced-level courses in both astronomy and physics as well as to supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
Candidates applying for the position should have a PhD in physics or astronomy or a related field and a proven record of scientific research in theoretical high-energy astrophysics. Experience with accretion disc physics, general relativity, MHD, particle-in-cell and Monte-Carlo methods as well as teaching experience will be considered as a plus.
The employment starts on Jan 1, 2018 or some later date to be agreed upon. The appointment is for two years and 8 months, with a trial period of four months. Depending on experience, the gross salary is within 3300 – 3700 € per month.
