The University of Chicago Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics is pleased to invite applications for the Brinson Prize Fellowship in Observational Astrophysics (with the University Rank of Postdoctoral Scholar) to begin in the fall of 2021. The Brinson Prize Fellow will be appointed to renewable one-year terms, for up to three years. The Brinson Prize Fellowship seeks entrepreneurial individuals who will actively and nimbly pursue bold and creative ideas. It carries an annual salary of $80,000, an annual research expense fund of $20,000, and a one-time relocation budget of up to $10,000.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to pursue new and innovative observational research utilizing digital sky surveys. Areas might encompass near-field cosmology, survey science, observational signatures of dark matter, multi-messenger astrophysics, transient phenomena, formation and evolution of large-scale structures, and the epoch of reionization.

Members of the Chicago community enjoy guaranteed access to the Magellan telescopes at Las Campanas Observatory in Chile, proprietary access to data from the Dark Energy Survey, and are actively involved in the Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-V).
